  1. Next week will be January 2024, and this rest area is still closed. Frustrating, my husband and I travel to our daughter’s house frequently, passing the rest areas both East and Westbound, and have to get off the highway to use restrooms in gas stations or fast food restaurants each time we go there.

    • Sounds like contractor failed to pay sub-contractors and they didn’t fix some issues, which I assume are inside/not visible to see driving by. This is not uncommon with contractors, a lot of them are scumbags and they take the money and run. To fix poor quality work/issues cuts into their profits.

This is very common with middle class income folks who build their dream home but run out of money fighting them in court for poor quality workmanship/issues. I be willing to bet the state was releasing funds based on what work was done and after they did an inspection.

Contractor I’d be willing to bet asked for a payment release and the state denied them until some issue were fixed. I’d also bet the contractor tried to band aid them & cover them up but the state didn’t go for it and eventually fired them.

Now it’s a whole new process of getting bids to fix and finish the job which takes a long time.

This is just my opinion base on my knowledge/experience with building contractors, which was formed by a news video, which you can see in the below link.

Hope this gives you some insight. I almost be willing to bet, they won’t be finish until sometime in 2025 if we’re lucky!
