A website user submitted the following regarding this rest area:
“Nevada DOT and two independent sources contacted me to advise the I-80 WB MM 42 rest area is closed to all traffic for the foreseeable future. Water supply problems caused the shutdown over a year ago, and they are studying it to see which is more economical, to run a pipe under the Interstate or to decommission the rest area permanently. The eastbound I-80 truck check station across from the rest area is also closed, perhaps for water supply issues, too.”
