Turnout

A turnout is basically a parking area; no picnic benches, no rest rooms, no vending machines, no services. Sometimes they are simply a short side road where you can pull off the highway. Rest areas have at least restrooms.

A turnout is where you can pull off the interstate and take a nap if you are getting drowsy. There are no sevices (bathrooms/vending/wifi), but it beats falling asleep while you're driving.

Thank Goodness that I was able to find a website that had a listing for all the rest areas to all the states I will be going through on my move from chicago to Idaho
