  1. I’ll be traveling alone with a kitten across I -70 this summer. Can I bring the kitten into the rest room with me if he’s in a carrier? I think it will be too hot to leave him in the car even for a short time.

  2. While the mile markers are numbered from east to west, this list is in reverse order. So your direction for eastbound travelers to read up the page and westbound read down is incorrect, because your list starts at the west edge of the state (highest mile marker).

    • It can be confusing but the way it’s listed is correct. Mile marker numbering begins at the west end of the highway within the state and increases as you go east. The highest mile marker will be near the east end of a state.

      • Ok I see my error now, I am all turned around. Thanks for responding! Have found your site so useful for my recent road trips.
Why not just list them in mile marker order instead of preferring westbound travelers with the east to west progression down the list? Or was it a random choice to do it that way.

        • It was a random choice, in part. It just seemed to make sense to list mile markers from high to low, especially for north/south routes (north on top of list to south below). Also, mile marker numbering can change when more than one highway run concurrently. In Tennessee, I-40 and I-75 run together in the Knoxville area. I-40 is east/west, I-75 is north/south and the mile markers change for I-75 travelers (because the numbering follows I-40). The most confusing is probably in Wisconsin where I-39, I-90, and I-94 run together. Also, New York’s numbering is reversed (high numbers in the west, low in the east).
