  1. I been driving truck 30 years a lot changed in that time. with all the rest stop closers and not being able to park ANYWHERE off highway , we are forced to park anywhere we can fit on the shoulder to do our business , thus leaving a discussing mess, built up by other drivers on the side of the highway. making truckers look bad, but not much of a choice! we depend on rest areas a great deal ! caltrans needs to pull their heads out of their ass and get it together !! it’s not rocket science

  2. Closure of the Willows rest area has been extended through September, 2022. The rest area has been closed since January, 2021. Supply chain issues have delayed the reopening of this rest stop.

  3. About a month ago I stopped at the Westley rest area headed north. I put a $20 bill in the vending machine. I got my $2 candy bar but no change. I contacted kgvending via email and text message and got no response. I don’t know what I can do to get reimbursed. I use these machines quite often. This is the first t time I’ve had a problem.

    • same thing happened to me at the rest area by Turlock but I didn’t get what I paid for and it took my 20 and I keep texting them finally they answered and said nothing was wrong with the machine but it took my 20 and they never sent me my money back

  4. It’s hard enough for truck drivers to find a place to stop and park for the night. Log books require them to stop after a certain amount of hours, no parking on the road sides, no parking in towns, truck stops are full.

  5. Is the I-5 safe to drive between Corning and Portland Oregon? I need to go to my brothers memorial service on the weekend of August 27, 28.

  6. I drove I-5 Northbound in CA from Vacaville to WA two days ago. I only found 2 (TWO) rest stops open the whole distance in California!! It was HORRIBLE! Why is CalTrans operating like this with all these rest areas CLOSED? Even the Weed stop is CLOSED now. Why can’t they at least put up some porta potties? I had to pull off the side of the freeway to each my lunch. I didn’t see anything open from south of Redding all the way to Ashland, OR. Klamath River (Randolf Collier) is closed too. Also, I couldn’t find any information about it on the CalTrans website. Where is the info located?

    • The CalTrans website would be the official source of information for rest areas in California. I’ve noticed lately, though, that some states are keeping their 511 websites more current than the DOT site. California has a “QuickMap” feature that will show the current rest area status. Rest areas are not turned on by default, though, so you’ll need to select the checkbox for rest areas under “Options”. The “QuickMap” feature is here: http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

    • I ran into the same problem. Makes it extra hard when they have them closed 2 or 3 un a row. I hate to stop at a mini mart or gas station to use their bathrooms when um not buying anything. I bet they don’t appreciate it either

    • i just drove from central valley, ca to seattle on Memorial day weekend. Most of the CA rest stops were CLOSED…. Oregon and Washington have beautiful, well maintained stops along INTERSTATE 5. Northbound. Whomever runs the Ca rest stops should be ashamed. (CALTRANS). Lastly on a positive note, stop by a place called YAKS near Dunsmuir, and stop in Corning at The Olive Pit.

      • I’m noticing the same, and it’s a shame that California rest stops or so many are closed. Washington and Oregon rest stops are beautiful, I’m from Seattle and they are well maintained and safe. California rest stops are indeed a mess.
